Let me tell you about this. The last day of Kawa Kon (Sunday) was slow business-wise, so I amused myself by drawing. I started sketching a head with long, tousled sort of hair. I drew one eye; it was okay. I drew the other; it wasn't okay. Nor were the redrawings, so I thought, "All right, he's got longish, unkempt hair. Let's give him an eyepatch." Then came the coat. "Okay, so we've got something kind of piratey." Big surprise coming from me. "Let's give him something to hold." So I did. I couldn't really make out what it was--just an oval. So I thought, "Well, add a chain and make it a pocket watch; it'll be pretty identifiable with little effort." So I did.

And then...

Realization: I basically drew Roy Mustang as a pirate.
